A Status Holder Certificate is the government recognition given to exporters who have done well in international trade and helped grow India's exports. Any exporter of goods, services or technology with a valid IEC can apply. The category you fit into depends on how much you have exported in recent years.
Export performance is required in each of the three preceding financial years.
For the Gems & Jewellery sector, performance in the two preceding financial years is required.
For One Star status, outside the Gems & Jewellery sector, export performance in any two of the three preceding financial years is now sufficient.
Notification No. 33/2026-27, dated 21 August 2026And want to obtain or upgrade their Status Holder recognition.
How FOB value, FOR value or foreign exchange earned are calculated towards the threshold.
Because of a recent rule change, based on their recent export performance.
Who want to use the benefits their certificate gives them, not just hold the paper.
Each category is set by your export performance in US dollars. The higher your exports over the counting period, the higher the Star category you can be recognised in.

Indicative only. Double weightage for eligible One Star categories isn't included here, and DGFT decides using the export data it holds — we check both before anything is filed.

Four phases, in the order recognition actually moves: check eligibility, get the documents ready, file and follow up, then use the benefits and renew.
Before you apply
We check your export numbers and suggest which Status Holder Certificate category you fit.
We check whether your exports qualify for the applicable double-weightage categories for One Star status, and review export data before filing.
Preparing the file
We prepare the DGFT application forms and arrange the CA / CMA / CS certificates as applicable.
We make sure your IEC profile, digital signature and required DGFT portal details are properly updated before filing.
Getting it issued
Where automatic e-SHC issuance does not cover you, where additional performance needs to be considered, or where an upgrade is required, we handle the DGFT application and documentation.
We follow up with DGFT on any queries and keep the application moving.
After recognition
We help you understand and use the Status Holder benefits and privileges that apply to you.
DGFT generally issues eligible certificates automatically by 15 August each year from the export data it holds. If your exports are not fully captured, or an upgrade is needed, we file a separate application.
Five steps from the first look at your numbers to your next upgrade.
We review your export figures and confirm which Star category fits.
We put together the required documents and the professional certificate confirming export performance.
Where a separate application is needed, we file it and follow the DGFT process.
We respond to any queries DGFT raises, where applicable.
We help once the certificate is approved and guide you on future upgrades.

Generally, a professional certificate confirming export performance, along with the required export data and supporting documents, is needed where a separate application is made. The exact requirements vary with the applicant's situation, so it is best to have your case checked.
There are five: One Star, Two Star, Three Star, Four Star and Five Star Export House, based on export performance from USD 3 million up to USD 800 million.
