What are Restricted Items?

Items that cannot be imported freely are often included on the Restricted/Negative list. An import permit or license is needed to bring in Restricted/Negative products. Only the authenticated user can import Restricted goods.

Items on the Restricted items list may be off-limits for various reasons, including but not limited to:

The government launched an online module on March 23, 2021, as part of the Import Management System to better manage restricted import licenses. There is absolutely no way to apply manually now.

Import License for Restricted Items

Items that cannot be imported without first receiving an Import of Restricted Items license, Authorization or approval from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade are considered Restricted Import Items. Obtaining a Restricted Import License is required to bring in restricted items.

Restricted Imports License Application Process

The Import of Restricted Items application process must be completed online using the DGFT Portal after a user has registered.

Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Access the DGFT Online Platform - Visit the official DGFT website and navigate to the online portal.

  2. Login with Credentials - Enter your registered username and password to access your account.

  3. Navigate to Import Management System - Find and select the Import Management System option from the services menu.

  4. Select Import Restrictions - Choose the Import Restrictions option from the available choices.

  5. Select Application Type - Choose "Revalidate Authorization for Restricted Imports" and click the Apply button.

  6. Complete the Application Form - Fill in all required fields in the application form with accurate information.

  7. Upload Required Documents - Attach all necessary supporting documents as per the requirements.

  8. Submit and Pay Fees - Complete the application submission process and pay the applicable fees.
