Feasibility Check
Checking whether your product is eligible.
Kireeti Consultants supports businesses navigating Advance Authorisation requirements under India's Foreign Trade Policy. We help eligible manufacturers and exporters with documentation, import-related requirements, application submission, export obligation monitoring and closure — based on what your business needs.
Advance Authorisation
Import Inputs Duty-Free|Manufacture for Export|Grow Globally
A DGFT scheme for exporters to import inputs at zero customs duty.
Application prepared and filed with DGFT.
Inputs physically incorporated in the export product.
Inputs used as per the applicable input-output norms.
Export within the authorisation's validity period.
Obligation met, authorisation redeemed.
Lower Input CostHigher Export CompetitivenessStronger Business Growth
Advance Authorisation allows duty-free import of inputs that are physically incorporated in an export product, making normal allowance for wastage. Fuel, oil and catalyst consumed in the production process may also be allowed. In return, you must fulfil an export obligation within the export validity, based on the applicable input-output norms. Under Advance Authorisation you can import raw material — but not capital goods, as you can under the EPCG scheme.
Raw materials physically incorporated, with normal wastage. Fuel, oil and catalyst consumed in production may also be allowed.
Machinery and equipment come in under EPCG, not Advance Authorisation.
Assessing whether AA fits your upcoming export order or production run.
Determining consumption patterns so input-output norms can be fixed.
Tracking EO fulfilment and consumption against the Authorisation.
Filing for redemption or EODC.
Four stages, in the order an authorisation actually moves: plan it, get it issued, keep it compliant, then close it.
Before you apply
Checking whether your product is eligible.
Checking whether your import items are in SION, or recommending the Self-Declaration or applicable norms route.
Calculating how much duty you can save to maximise the benefit.
Getting it issued
Preparing the documents your application needs.
The complete application process, for faster issuance of your authorisation.
Taking your case to the Norms Committee for ad hoc or non-SION cases.
While it's live
Registering the authorisation at the port of import.
Applications for Invalidation Letters or Advance Release Orders (ARO) when you buy locally.
Changes to the authorisation when your requirements change.
Closing it
Monitoring export obligation fulfilment.
Combining multiple authorisations so they're easier to manage.
Filing for the Export Obligation Discharge Certificate and release of bank guarantees from Customs.
Your export obligation is worked out from input-output norms, so the first question on any AA file is which norms apply. Answer one question to see where your case likely starts.
Your inputs already appear in the Standard Input-Output Norms, so the application is filed against the published norms.
Ahmedabad: iron & steel flat rolls, AA licence processed under SION.
Where SION doesn't cover your case, the authorisation can be applied for on the basis of self-declared norms.
Bengaluru: coffee industry, authorisation issued on time.
How self-declaration worksFor non-SION cases, we take your case to the DGFT Norms Committee to have norms fixed for your product.
Delhi: industrial refrigeration, norms fixed successfully.
How ad hoc norms are fixedFor eligible exporters, self-declared norms can be ratified under the Self Ratification Scheme instead of waiting for norms to be fixed by the Norms Committee.
How self ratification worksAn authorisation applied for on a net-to-net basis, with the import entitlement worked out against the quantity actually used in the export product.
Pune: pharmaceuticals, applications filed on a net-to-net basis.
How net-to-net worksWhere norms were already fixed for your product on an earlier authorisation, a fresh authorisation can be applied for on those same norms.
Mumbai: engineering, repeat authorisations handled.
How repeat basis worksBoth let you bring in inputs without paying duty upfront. What differs is what you can bring in and what you commit to in return.

Our teams have handled different types of Advance Authorisation work depending on each client's requirement — from standard SION filings to Norms Committee cases, self-declaration routes, domestic sourcing and final EODC closure. Pick a branch to see the region it covers and a file it handled.
Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir
The client needed to import a material for which no Standard Input-Output Norm existed. Our Delhi team took the case to the DGFT Norms Committee in Delhi and represented it through to a decision.
Telangana — Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad and Karimnagar
Our Hyderabad team supports a range of sectors. For a pharmaceutical client, we modified the licence so they could import raw material without any further delay to production.
Karnataka
For a client in the coffee industry, our Bengaluru team handled the import procedures under the Self-Declaration route.
Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Surat and nearby areas
Our clients wanted to import raw material that was available under SION, so our Ahmedabad team processed their Advance Authorisation on the standard SION route.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh — Vijayawada, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Kakinada
A client in the corrugated boxes industry wanted to source raw material within India rather than import it. Our Vijayawada team handled the Invalidation Letter and Advance Release Order process.
Mumbai, Nashik and Surat, plus nearby Goa and Karnataka
Our Mumbai team supports a client in the engineering industry, handling their imports under Advance Authorisation on a repeat basis.
Pune, Kolhapur, Satara and nearby areas
For the pharmaceutical sector, our Pune team assisted in filing applications for Advance Authorisation on a net-to-net basis.
Vidarbha, including Nagpur and Amravati, and nearby parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh
A client in the iron and steel industry held multiple licences. Our Nagpur team helped combine them so the licences could be managed more efficiently.
West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha
Our Kolkata team has assisted various manufacturing businesses in tracking export obligation fulfilment — the records that decide how smoothly a licence closes.
Tamil Nadu and nearby areas
Our Chennai team handled the final stage for a client in the cereals and pulses industry, assisting with the EODC application and the release of their bank guarantee.
Experience with the relevant DGFT and EXIM procedures.
A dedicated panel handles the whole Advance Authorisation lifecycle — pre-application planning, the application, export obligation monitoring and closure.
Branch teams across the country, so your file is handled close to where you operate.
An AA consultant typically helps prepare the required documentation, check eligibility, track export obligation fulfilment and consumption against input-output norms, and prepare for redemption or closure.
Advance Authorisation can be issued to a manufacturer exporter, or to a merchant exporter tied to a supporting manufacturer.
This varies from application to application and with your business situation, so it is best to take expert advice on the exact documentation your case needs.
It is the commitment you give in return for importing inputs duty-free: exporting the resultant product made with those inputs within the authorisation's validity period, based on the applicable input-output norms.
