About the Scheme

The Mega Food Park Scheme was launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) under the Government of India to create modern infrastructure for food processing along the value chain from farm to market with strong forward and backward linkages.

The scheme aims to accelerate the growth of the food processing sector by providing a mechanism to link agricultural production to the market by bringing together farmers, processors, and retailers to maximize value addition, minimize wastage, increase farmers' income, and create employment opportunities.

Funding Pattern

Financial Assistance

The Mega Food Park Scheme provides financial assistance in the form of grant-in-aid at 50% of the eligible project cost in general areas and 75% in difficult and hilly areas (North East Region including Sikkim, J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand) subject to a maximum of ₹50 crores per project.

Release of Grant

The grant-in-aid is released in multiple tranches based on the progress of the project:

    First Installment: 35% - After approval and fulfillment of initial conditions

    Second Installment: 40% - After utilization of 70% of first installment and proportionate expenditure by SPV

    Third Installment: 25% - After utilization of 70% of second installment and proportionate expenditure by SPV

Note: Cost of land is not eligible for grant assistance.

Patanjali Food & Herbal Park, Haridwar

One of the first Mega Food Parks to be operationalized, it has created over 10,000 jobs and benefited thousands of farmers in the region. The park has state-of-the-art processing facilities for fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

A Mega Food Park is a hub-and-spoke model that provides modern infrastructure facilities for food processing along the value chain from farm to market with strong forward and backward linkages. It typically consists of a Central Processing Centre (CPC) and several Primary Processing Centers (PPCs) strategically located near the farms.

The scheme is implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) which can be formed by private companies, public sector companies, joint ventures, NGOs, cooperatives, and self-help groups. The SPV should have a minimum equity of ₹50 crores and a net worth of at least ₹25 crores.

The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of grant-in-aid at 50% of the eligible project cost in general areas and 75% in difficult and hilly areas (North East Region including Sikkim, J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand) subject to a maximum of ₹50 crores per project.

No, the cost of land is not eligible for grant assistance under the scheme. The SPV has to arrange for the land from its own resources.

As of now, 42 Mega Food Parks have been approved across the country, out of which several are already operational and the rest are in various stages of implementation.
