The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was established by the Government of India to develop and promote export of scheduled products.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was established by the Government of India under the APEDA Act passed by the Parliament in December, 1985 for the development and promotion of export for the scheduled products. With this act coming into effect, APEDA replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).
APEDA is responsible for providing financial assistance, information, and guidelines for the development of scheduled products. APEDA registration is essential as it is responsible for export promotion and development of scheduled products.

APEDA monitors and promotes the export of the following scheduled products:
Fruits, Vegetables and their Products including processed and preserved items.
Meat and Meat Products including processed and preserved items.
Poultry and Poultry Products including eggs and processed items.
Dairy Products including milk, cheese, butter, and other dairy derivatives.
Confectionery, Biscuits and Bakery Products for export markets.
APEDA has also been entrusted with the responsibility to monitor import of sugar.
