AEO is a certification issued by Indian Customs (CBIC) to businesses with strong internal controls, sound finances and secure trade practices. Eligible businesses get faster Customs clearance and fewer physical checks on their shipments. There are four certificate types, based on the business's role.
Relaxed for eligible MSMEs. Plus a minimum number of Customs documents and a clean compliance record.
AEO-T1 is continuous, subject to annual self-declaration. AEO-T2: 3 years. AEO-T3 and AEO-LO: 5 years.
Who want to defer duty payments on eligible imports under the AEO-T2 or AEO-T3 facility.
Who want faster Customs clearance and smoother import-export operations.
Who want to improve their Customs compliance and internal processes.
Who want to know whether AEO suits them, and which category may apply.
Eligibility and the benefits available depend on the applicant's business, AEO category and the applicable Customs requirements.
Which certificate you apply for depends on your role in the supply chain and how far your controls and security already go.
